DENVER (AP) — Colorado’s Senate president is awaiting word whether he’ll face a recall election over gun control. The secretary of state’s office had a Wednesday deadline to decide a challenge from Colorado Springs Sen. John Morse, who says the recall petition against him was improperly worded.
Another lawmaker brings a similar challenge Wednesday. Democratic Sen. Angela Giron of Pueblo also wants the secretary of state to throw out a recall petition against her. Giron also says the petition was improperly worded.
The two Democrats could be the first legislators in state history to face recall elections. Gun-rights activists say the two Democrats should be removed for supporting curbs on the Second Amendment. One of the new laws restricts ammunition magazines. Another expands background check requirements.
